The main area to think about is whether you are in it for the cash or the art. No honestly some people will make paintings for the love of it and still think they will sell it. How this can work I really have no idea. Consider it, why wouldn't you view what people are purchasing. Tailor your products to suit the customers wants. It makes complete and utter common sense to meet what is wanted.Second of all think about your pricing and think about several factors. The first should be what customers are going to cough up. The other element to recall is that by not charging enough you will fail. Prices can be gauged by simple market research. What is meant by this is look at the competition to see what they are charging. Also try speaking to close friends and ask them if they think your ideas are too high.How you sell your paintings are your next major consideration. The major outlets are door2door, markets and the internet. Selling door2door although it has been done before can still be great. Supplying people through local markets can be challenging as well as rewarding.The internet is probably the area where you are thinking of supplying. Selling through auction sites has more than likely occurred to everyone as well but is full of pitfalls.Prices on ebay are terrible as far as the paintings market goes. However if you only require a small profit then don't dismiss it. What you are selling is probably the premier thing. The selection will probably come down to traditional, main stream as well as the outright bonkers.Conservative paintings will almost certainly include landscapes, portraits, still life art and a variety of scenes. Modern art is a massive area too daunting to try to explain here. To keep it basic I will say that there are many vivid colours out there. There are many unusual shapes and styles out there with no holds barred.The mad art that is available can be on a journey. There are pieces that are so small they would fit into a small toilet. There are pieces that are so large that they wouldn't look out of place in Westminster Abbey.This probably covers many of the beginnings of the oil paintings area and I hope it has helped a little.
